![]() Bright Intervals recently worked with Eptheca on a short project looking at the market for antiques in China. As middle classes get more affluent, tastes are becoming more sophisticated as Chinese people acquire and develop their tastes for Western luxuries. The Western way of life is attractive, and in recent years, major western luxury brands have made huge inroads into markets in China. The automotive market in China is already the largest, and luxury fashion and accessory marques are in high demand. As these tastes become more sophisticated, many are looking for other ways to spend, or even invest, their money. As the wealthiest Chinese are looking for more discerning purchases to distinguish themselves above the growing middle class antiques are becoming more attractive. There is still a long to go for these markets to develop. Potential buyers are starting to educate themselves about the market and the intricacies of what they might purchase, looking for value for money. But like many things, the potential for the market is there.
